alchalsia is when the les valve is very tight and does not open naturally when swallowing. In the normal process of swallowing the peristalis wave of the esophagus pushes the food down the throat and into the stomach.howver in alchalsia this wave does not trigger the les valve to open and the food will stay at the bottom of the esophagus. After enough food is in the bottom of the esophagus the weight of the food will overcome the les valve causing it to open.On endoscopy the doc will find infflammation at the les valvebut he will also observe that it is harder than normal to pass the scope thru the valve and into the stomach. He should have noted that on the endoscopy report.Other conditions you may have if alcahalsia is not the dx is a moltility disorder.A moltility test is needed to help in a diagnosis along with a barium swallow
