Hi Sjofna! Well, you are definetely not alone. I have just about the same exact symptoms as you. I also have a history of panic and anxiety attacks. I currently am not taking anything for them, but have used Xanax in the past, which sometimes would help. Anyways, about 3 years ago, I started to develop this throat clearing and coughing. It has progressively gotten worse thru the years. The Dr.'s at first thought it was reoccuring bronchitis, so they would put me on 2 separate antibiotics every 3 months, since it would come right back. Last year I had enough, because I had tried every antibiotic there was at that point. Then my Dr. thought it was allergies, so I went to the allergist, and after all the testing, he said I have very mild allergies, but I do have hyper reactive airway disease and fluid in my sinuses, which is contributing to the cough. But he said one of the major cause of the airways and sinuse problems is coming from my acid reflux. (one of the symptoms for acid reflux he said was my constant cough and throat clearing every time I ate) I don't get any heartburn either, so I thought that I didn't have it. But I do have problems with my food coming back up somtimes after I eat, I have to keep swallowing it back down. Anyways, he put me on Prevacid, which has started to help the cough. (I've only been on it 5 days then went off for 4 days than back on for 5, now I'm off for 3) The problem is that the Prevacid makes me very tired (strange side effect) and also has given me Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I know it is the Prevacid because this happened to me a year ago, and when I stop the Prevacid some of the stomach pain has gone away. So, I don't know which is worse, the coughing or the IBS? Anyways, I am going to try a really bland diet next week, (I have to get psyched up for this, haha, I like my tasty food) and see if I can help my stomach that way. Also, when I am stressed or having anxiety the coughing is most definetely worse. Hope maybe this helps you someway, please keep me informed of your situation. Take Care, Michelle R.
