Endoscopy showed small sliding hiatal hernia, mild inflamation of esophagus due to GERD. I had severe heartburn but that has just about gone away with lifestyle changes, but the acid reflux is constant, especially late evening and early a.m..I tried Aciphex and Prevacid (dbl doses), along w/ antacids, zantac and bentyl. so far, Nexium works the best, but not completely. I'm fearing that as long as I feel and taste the acid, it must be irritating my esophagus; it always feels a little strange when I swallow like my throat is swollen. Now I'm starting to have anxiety pains in my chest from the stress this has brought on. I sure don't want to end up with cancer some day, but I also don't want to rush into surgery either. Any suggestions? Thanks.
