Hi; I'm a 36 year old female in fairly good shape (could lose 10 pounds) and fairly active, although I don't have a regular exercise regimen. I smoke cigarettes also. My diet is fairly healthy, although I do indulge in junk food occasionally. I do have a history of gastro problems (IBS, constipation, bloating). I had a scary episode a few months ago at work that has recurred 4 or 5 times since then (though not so severe), and I wonder if it could be a hiatal hernia. At first I thought it was a heart attack...it starts with severe pain across my middle and upper back (doesn't feel muscular) and radiates to my neck and jaw. During these episodes, I feel like I have a blockage in my throat and it's difficult to swallow. The first attack lasted over an hour and the subsequent attacks were much shorter. The swallowing difficulty seems to linger though, and I've had that problem off and on for quite a while. Any clues on what this could be? I assume it can't be a heart attack at this point, but it's very scary and comes without warning. I had one today, and last night I ate a lot of red meat, which I normally don't do. I'm scared and hope someone can help me! Thanks.
