I, too, am one of those people that fear most drugs and I am very sensitive to them also. When I went for my endoscopy I was SOOOO worked up. The doctor gave me a bit of Valium through the IV and then watched my heart rate. It stayed at 120! He then gave me a second dose of Valium. Again, I stayed at 120. He said, "oh boy, you are something else." He then gave me the Versid and life was good!! I know this probably doesn't make you feel better but these 3 drugs are very safe. The one with the most side effects is probably the Demerol and those side effects include headache and/or nausea. The other two are very low on the scale of giving deathly allergic reactions although I know anyone can be allergic to anything. I can understand why a doctor might want his patient to be sedated. He doesn't like to see a patient uncomfortable and it makes his job easier and safer if there is less resistance from the patient. Please try to be brave and use the medication. It is not bad--and this is from a big chicken! Christine
