Hi Lydia,
I wrote to one of the nurses I know at USC and asked her to give me some information about pledgets that I could post here. This is what she sent:
"The pleget that we use is made out of teflon material and it is only 1.5cm(L) x.5cm (W) but all the USC Drs. use it because they think it not only adds strength to the wrap but also help the wrap be tension free. Hope this helps. <snip, snip, other stuff not related to this>

I wrote her back and asked to explain where it it placed. When she answers, I'll post that too.
As to the throwing up *soon* after surgery, just be prepared for it. Then you can avoid it. Talk to your surgeon AND the anesthesiologist. Ask them specifically what they will do to *prevent* it from happening (like what drugs will they use), and if you do throw up, ask them how they will stop it.
