I just wanted to tell anyone who was interested in the progress I have been making coming off the ppi's. I discovered this board about 6 months ago now, and at the time, was trying to get of zoton. I had a hellish time. I had been diagnosed with gerd and told I'd have to take meds or consider surgery, i wanted to come off the meds because i wanted to start a family. As I said, i had a terrible time, with stomach burning, heartburn etc... It was one of the worst times in my life. I watched my diet, and very gradually cut down the ppi, one every day/one every 2nd day/one every 3rd day... and then took zantac every day/every 2nd day etc.... and now, about 4 months later on, I am off the ppi's completely. I still watch my diet, take gaviscon after meals and a zantac 75 mg when necessary which averages about x1, maybe x2 a week. The stomach burning is practically away, I still get a bit of heartburn, but nothing like I used to, and the gaviscon and zantac helps. I know I might at sometime have to go back on meds, or consider surgery, but for the moment, things are good, and the GI doc says the surgery would be better after pregnancy anyhow. I know everyone is different, but I just want to encourage anyone,(like people encouraged me 6 months ago), who is having the same battle I had, that it may take a while, but it can be done. Also, I just want to thank people who have encouraged me, and say that this board was a bit of a lifesaver!! Love Heather.
PS Ive seen all the arguments for and against alternative therapies, and just wanted to say I took various herbal/homeopathic stuff during the last few months(under supervision)I dont know, maybe it works?! I prayed a lot too!
