I never had problems with my stomach being full of gas. When I had GERD, it would have leaked back out again through my dysfunctional LES:)
But I was told that I was mouth-breathing more than I should be, and this could lead to air swallowing. And it certainly dries out the throat, making it harder to clear the reflux.
I had to consciously work on breathing through my nose during the day. At night, there is a velcro device designed for plastic surgery patients that is recommended--only I couldn't find one in my small town.
My GERD started with a bad cold/flu thing, and so of course I was mouth-breathing because I couldn't breathe through my nose at the time, and I guess it came to be a habit.
