Fortunately, I've been GERD-free for so long that I don't remember the details, and I know that the milligrams in one PPI don't translate to another, but...
I took one pill or capsule of PPI in the morning, another PPI before dinner, and then an H2 blocker before bed. (For me, the H2 blocker was 20 mg. of Pepcid.)
After a while, I decided that all this acid suppression was making me feel worse, so I cut back to only one PPI in the morning and a dose of H2 blockers before dinner. My throat got hoarser, and my chest pain was increasingly worse, but I had more energy and felt better overall. And since my surgery was scheduled, I wasn't so worried.
BTW, the statement about "up to 6 months" being a normal length of time for throat people to respond to PPIs comes from Dr. Koufman of Wake Forest, one of the leading experts in ENT reflux symptoms, and Buffy's doc.
