I had my fundoplication surgery almost a month ago and have been reading the posts here on Heartburn.com.
My surgery has been very successful. I have no more reflux, and the post surgery after effects have been very minimal.
The only advice that I would give anyone considering this surgery is to get the most experienced surgeon with Nissan Fundoplication. My surgeon, Dr. Raphael Bueno was excellent. After reading some of the posts from people who had problems with their surgery here on the board, I can only conclude that people need to ensure that the surgeon they have chosen is the most experienced.
Even though my surgery was done lapriscopically and took over 5 hours, Dr. Bueno did everything in his power not to cut me since I had a shortened esaphagus and abnormal shaped stomach. Yes, the surgery was 5 hours long and I was in the hospital for 5 days, I have not had any problems swallowing nor has anything gotten stuck in my stomach wrap.
Experience is the key with this operation. Any one considering this operation must question the experience the surgeon has had with the Fundoplication surgery.
