I am on BuSpar for anxiety, I have started Remeron for depression which actually helps me to sleep at night and I am on Prevacid 30 mg twice a day. The last couple of months I have been on Aciphex, which did NOTHING at all to control the acid, although I was only on it for four days and quit because my throat swelled shut the 4th day. I was then switched to Protonix which cut the acid, but I still got heartburn several times a day. The pain is not unbearable, it is just uncomfortable especially since it refluxes into my mouth. I have had these severe, refractory symptoms since May 1, but I believe that I have had heartburn for a couple of years. I have had burning in my upper back several times a day that I never considered to be heartburn because it was in my back. Now that I have experienced heartburn beneath my sternum, I know that I have had this problem for a long time and I never watched what I ate or took a single Tums for the burning in my back. I drank diet pop all day long while working and had burning in the back while working, but I always attributed the burning to poor posture and work stress. Now my symptoms are severe so what now? I am recovering from bulimia since May 1, and I am sure that this has contributed to my GI problems. Since I have told my docs about my anxiety and bulimia, they think 100% of my symptoms are "in my head." I know anxiety is contributing to this problem, but it is hard to get the "in your head" message when you are tasting and choking on this stuff as those words are spilling out of their mouth.
Am on medication for anxiety, depression, and an acid pill. I am not overweight, sleep propped up. What more can I do? By the way, I have not even had the strength of my LES tested yet.
