I agree completely with what CKP just said. My surgeon had done well over 100 fundos (he prefers open, and i would suspect that the experience makes even more of a difference when doing a lap). I was only under for a couple of hours for both the fundo and the gall bladder. My surgeon was very upfront with me about his reasons for choosing private practice over an academic position. I don't regret having mine done open, but i wouldn't recommend it for everyone.
