Hi, I'm new to this listserv, but came across it while doing a Google search. I was diagnosed with GERD several years ago and had the fundoplication surgery about three years ago. Approximately a year after the surgery the GERD symptoms started returning. However, I had some very strange symptoms that I thought were a combination of TMJ and GERD until they temporarily cleared up on a course of Amoxicillin (prescribed for a sinus infection). The symptoms included laryngitis, a bad sore throat and neck pain only on the left side(inside throat pain severe enough that when a massage therapist massaged my neck it hurt inside my throat), Episodic pain in my chest, only on the left side that seemed to increase with exercise, burning when I swallowed, only on the left side, and jaw and ear pain (all left sided). I know GERD can cause many of these symptoms, but it seems odd (coincidental?) that they seemed to improve dramatically for awhile on antibiotics. Now they're mostly back, plus I've begun wheezing (that was one of my GERD symptoms) and waking up in the middle of the night unable to breathe. My Internist put me on a steroid inhaler which seems to be helping the breathing, but I can't imagine it's doing much good if the problem is GERD. I'm currently taking 40 mgs of Protonix and scheduled for an endoscopy (to see if the wrap loosened) in a week. Is it possible to get some kind of secondary infection from GERD? Would the GI doc be able to spot that with an endoscopy if it were the case? Are there other tests out there I should request? Anyone else have this odd assortment of symptoms?
