Yes, but many GERD sufferers have the 'lump' feeling with no clinical evidence of stricture or even any real difficulty swallowing.

Some ENT's say the feeling of the lump can accompany simple irritation and inflamation in the 'lump' area. It has also been suggested that the hiatal hernia and 'kinked' or 'compressed' feeling of the esophagus tends to cause a lump feeling because the neck has so many things crammed into it that anything slightly misaligned, out of place, or inflamed is likely to cause the feeling.

Also, the 'lump' feeling can be caused by nerves that are 'numb' or 'desensitized' in the area. If you swallow a numbing agent, you usually are left with the feeling that there is a lump in your throat and that swallowing or breathing are difficult even if they are not. So in that case, the ABSENSE of feeling actually causes the feeling of a PRESCENCE.

I think the throat is a very sensitive area of the body.
