Hi GW,

There is a lot of money being made by the med companies treating the "disease" of constipation.

The last thing that they want is for a diet change to rob them of the chance to fix the problem.

If simply avoiding bread and pasta for a week or so stops the constipation, just think what the addition of an absorbent, pliable filler like cooked grains with husks will do. Whole unground grains contain the bulk, nutrients and minerals that are REMOVED by millers who refine grains into flour.

It will require great willpower to stop buying baked goods and the rest of the family will hate you for putting them through your diet changes. Only if there is no bread in the house can you truly have a chance of not eating bread. No one is saying to give up meat, vegetables, fruits, nuts or sweet drinks, just bread, pasta, cookies, crackers, bagels, pretzels and white rice.

When this cost is added to the cost of trying to treat chronic constipation, one has to wonder who is fooling who. (Don't get me started about the dairy industry.)

Once you truly have your constipation under control you can cheat a little once in a while as long as you don't make it a daily occurrence. Company parties, fancy dinners out, can be tolerated especially if you can eat what you choose.

Of course, if you are diabetic, you already know about those other refined carbs that must be avoided. Did your doctor warn you about the flour that is the same as sugar to a diabetic? Probably not.
