Endoscopy,for the most part,actually tells you what you DON'T have!It tells all the things mentioned in the other posts BUT don't hang your hat on the results of the "normal" endoscopy.The latest belief by the "big shots" is that 50% to 70% of the GERD patients are endoscopy negative for physical signs of damage or inflamation in the esophagus.IF YOU GET BETTER WITH THE PPI's YOU ALMOST CERTAINLY HAVE GERD OR MORE GENERALLY AN ACID RELATED DISORDER.Yes get the endoscopy done,but if it's negative...thats a good thing!Unlike many docs and patient's belief,a negative endoscopy ,only means no visible damage...as noted above half or more patient's WITH DOCUMENTED GERD appear to be ENDOSCOPY NEGATIVE.This patient type is being more commonly recognized(the eyes only see what the MIND knows)by enlightened providers of care.More to follow..
