Generally NERD/GERD treatment is identical.Some NERD and even GERD patient's need MORE medication,in higher doses for a longer time to get better.Dr.Joel Richter at Cleveland Clinic has published articles that suggest double dose PPI's twice a day as a challenge to see if the patient responds.At first glance this may seem radical.This group of meds(PPI's) has been heavily studied.This appears to be a safe thing to do and when you realize how much suffering occurs,this becomes a quality of life issue.Prevacid was recently approved for age 1 year and up.Docs have probably been underdosing(at least in the decision making phase of whether or not a person has gerd as a source of the troubles they live with).All the basics need to be adhered;elevated head of bed,avoid mints and caffiene,sleep on the left side if possible....
