The crus (a fancy name for the fibrous muscle of the diaphram I think) wraps around the esophagus where it enters the stomach like a snare or a loop. This loop comes from the RIGHT half of the diaphram. When you lay to the right the stomach and esophagus fall toward the right. When you lay on the left they shift or fall to the LEFT,but theloop of the diaphram acts like a snare to hold firm as the stomach and esophagus fall to the left, hence it allows a "pinching" of the esophagus as it enters the stomach thus reinforcing the "check valve" mechanism.Hope this helps to understand.Kind of hard to explain in words without a picture.Rebecca, you deserve better.Stand your ground. What part of the country are you located in?
