I can give you a one-word answer...Barrett's!! If you suffer from GERD long enough, your body trys to protect itself by producing intestinal-type cells in the Esophagus!!
An Endoscopy is not scary at all, You go in, get an IV, they wheel you into the procedure room, the doc comes into the room and talks to you, they may spray your throat with a local, you get a shot (through the IV) of a sedative probably Versed, and a pain-reliever possibly Fentanyl and for most people it's "Lights out" until they are waking you up in the recovery room.
