Good luck with your procedure! I would recommend going back through the past postings on this forum and read people's posts and experiences post-nissen. Everyone responds to the surgery differently. Mine was painful but manageable. Take the food issue slowly. Avoid anything that causes gas. Carbonation, hot drinks, drinking through a straw, onions, garlic, broccoli, etc. I went back to work after 4 weeks off, but it was very tiring. You should be able to look after yourself, but you are not supposed to drive while on the pain meds, for about 2 weeks. It might be helpful to have a friend to run any errands, or just stock up on anti-gas pills, tylenol, and soft foods like jello, soups, pudding. My biggest advice is get a Liquid vitamin SUPPLEMENT. You will not be able to eat very much for a long time and you want to make sure you are getting enough nutrition. Good luck! Keep us posted.
