I'm with Tricia--if the problem is the drugs, then just don't do the drugs. Most people in the world don't bother with drugs for an endoscopy.
I did have sedation once, and it was not pleasant. The staff kept yelling at me to wake up, and I missed two days of work, because I didn't truly wake up (enough to drive) until noon the day after.
So for me, doing it without drugs was a more attractive alternative. I particularly liked that I could talk with the doctor afterward.
