I will be seeing my GI this Wednesday for a 6 month follow up visit. My yearly endoscopy is due. I will discuss the cox-2 inhibitors with him. Though I may not be a candidate at this point (I'll know whether my beginning Barrett's has progressed), it's good to know there are alternatives out there.

What I found especially interesting about the last medscape Barrett's update was the unsatisfactory statistics they found with regards to surgery (fundo) and the halt of Barrett's progression....but they did not say whether the fundos were sucessful or not. Can one assume that only unsuccessful fundos do not prevent the progression of Barrett's? Can the metaplastic cells continue to progress into dysplasia even in the absence of reflux?

Just like in ablation of HGD there may be new squamous cells growing over the dyplastics cells that may not have been treated...and these cells then can progress to cancer even though they are covered (protected) from acid and or bile. Lot's of questions....we need answers.
