I had a friable egj a little less than two years ago. At the time I had been on prevacid 2 x a day for reflux over an 8 week period of time. I had never had much hb when my gi had put me on this med. I then went off of it, and starting using xanax, a few months later the esoph looked fine - no longer friable. Without ppi. Figure that one out. I then went in for gallbladder surgery and lysis of pelvic/intestinal adhesions. When I came out, I went off the xanax. I was scoped 5 months later... not friable but biopsies showed esophagitis and gastritis. So then I went back on xanax. Have pretty much been on if ever since with a few tries of going off. Every time I try to go off, I get nocturnal reflux which causes chills and nausea. Methinks it is bile. So right now I will prob stay on xanax until when ever someone else figures out what to do with me. Was scoped last week normal appearing, normal biopsies. Have also been taking prilosec, but not regularly... take maybe 2 or 3 times a week. Also on paxil for ibs... it worked at the beginning but now is no longer helping ibs-d.
