I have been diagnosed with a small hiatial hernia with a Schatzki's ring (which was dilated successfully following endoscopy). I'm presently taking 20mg Omeprazole and have no symptoms of heartburn or swallowing discomfort. The Gastroent recommended I remain on Losec for one year then try to step down to an H2 Blocker. I have however some ongoing problems with hoarseness and congestion in my throat. ie. I'm clearing my throat and need to keep my throat moist if talking for any length. I also have some congestion as I periodically cough up greenish phlem. I suffer from hayfever which makes this worse. My GP has referred me to an Throat, Nose, Ear Specialist but I feel this is connected to the Hiatus Hernia and GERD. Any comments would be appreciated.
