Dear Doctor, I am 38 year old female who was diagnosed with atypical GERD last year after my complete hysterectomy. My only symptom has been a sore throat, which can be very severe at times. I had my gallbladder removed as well as a "floppy" Nissen fundoplication performed simultaneously in December of 1999. My ph test prior to the surgery was rated a "34" or approximately 200 refluxed per day. After surgery, my ph test indicated that I am refluxing approximately 5 times per day. However, I still have a sore throat after eating ANYTHING. Strep, mono, etc. have all been ruled out. I am taking meds for candida, which seems to help a little. Could I still be experiencing throat pain due to the few refluxes I have every day? What else, in your opinion, could be causing my sore throat? GERD? I am a professional singer and this (sore throat) is very bothersome. I follow all recommended lifestyle changes indicated for GERD sufferers. Thanks!
