You obviously have been having problems. The exact nature of these problems is not clear to me. As you aware, it is possible that your hernia has returned and that there is a portion of small bowel caught within the hernia decreasing the bowel motility. If this is the case, it may account for many of your symptoms. Sometimes, this diagnosis is hard to make. I would encourage your doctor to order an upper G.I. and small bowel follow through. Patients with poor peristaltic function or decreased gastric emptying will often have symptoms associated with GERD. I would encourage you to talk to doctors about these problems and if necessary, obtain a second opinion.
