The pain that you describe is not specific. Although it may arise from a symptomatic hiatal hernia, this seems unlikely. It seems more typical of a muscluo-skeletal pain. Most patients do not have pain from their hernias unless the hernia becomes so large that it represents a paraesophageal hernia. These type of hernias are typically found an older patients. The typical symptoms is that of severe chest pain and bloating after eating. Paraesophageal hernias can be diagnosed simply on an upper G.I
