From: Christina
I just turned 30 and had a sudden onset of GERD in late March. I have been taking Reglan since Easter and it has helped a lot with getting my stomach emptied faster. I have only had the side effect of mild fatigue. Prevacid made me feel like I had food stuck in my stomach and Aciphex was no better. Finally got in to a gastroenterologist and am scheduled for esophagram, upper GI and ultrasound next week. He said that birth control pills are a risk factor for GERD. I have been on them for 11 years. He prescribed me to continue the Reglan with Zantac twice a day, but he didn't mention stopping the birth control pills. Has anyone else experienced this negative effect due to birth control pills? The onset of my GERD was very sudden but I don't know if that is just how it happens. I would rather go off the pill than have to deal with GERD and perhaps it getting worse with continued use. Also, I hate taking more medication than I need and am afraid of taking too much acid reducers due to my previous negative experience with the Prevacid and Aciphex. Has anyone had negative side effects of Zantac? I am also concerned as I think my stomach acid probably protects me from bacteria or germs. I also want to say I am so glad I found this site and this board. It feels better to know I am not the only one with GERD who is trying to find a solution to the problem. Thank you for any information on the birth control pills or acid-reducing side effects/information.
