All patients are cautioned that these functions may be affected by the wrap. The fundoplication does not discriminate in what it keeps in the stomach. It tries to keep everything down. All that said, many patients do report that they are able to burp, yet no longer have reflux. Very rarely have patients been bothered by any alterations in these functions when compared to the daily relief they receive from the operation's benefits. Having heard from many patients, I don't think any would say that the changes you are concerned about have been that significant or pose a reason not to proceed with the operation.
