With children as with adults, other reasons for the symptoms should be investigated. Specifically, to insure that no obstruction to the emptying of the stomach is present. If this is not the case, then the questions you need to ask are whether the natural history of this in the pediatric patient is different than in adults. If not, then an operative procedure (which has become fairly routine in infants as well) will likely be the appropriate solution to this problem. To help you feel comfortable in this choice, ask about the potential complications that could arise without surgical intervention.
