I have been reading questions and answers on this board and have learned a lot. I have been reading that Prevacid and other medications similar to Prevacid only stop acid production. Can the gastric juices or bile still damage my esophagus? I still have chest pain but no burning even on Prevacid. I have been taking Prevacid for about four months and prior to that was on Zantac for about a year. My doctor told me when she did my EGD that she was very surprised that she did not find any ulcers anywhere because of all the inflammation in my esophagus right above the LES, no Barrett's thank goodness. My question is, can the gastric juices or bile cause further damage to the esophagus even though I do not feel any burning sensation?
