GERD symptoms can take weeks to diminish. Interestingly, the acid suppression medications may suppress the symptoms, but the irritation of the reflux (the medications do not stop reflux, just the acid in it) may continue to damage the esophagus. As to suppplements to decrease the acid in foods, the acid in your foods is minimal compared to the acid your stomach can produce. Some substances can diminsh the acid in the food. I don't know if what you describe is effective, however.
