Re: Post script to six moths of misert and counting....From: CRaig CommentsI completely understand your frustration, confusion, and misery! When a person feels like this, it's hard to have times when you can even think straight! I'm in a similar place. Just thought I'd throw out some suggestions. I've also considered allergy, food sensativity tests. Haven't done it yet. The bile in your stomach might indicate that your stomach peristalsis is poor or reversing( reflux). Instead of bile traveling out through the duodenum, its backing up into the stomach - and possibly also into your esophagus( were there any bile stains in it?) Bile is very irritative and can cause gastritis(stomach pain) and esophagitis. The fact that you have a lot of pain and that the Librax seemed to help, indicates to me that spasm somewhere along the GI tract is occurring a lot. If you have spasm in one area( say in your stomach pylorus) it tends to also occur elswhere( say in your LES). If I were you, I would experiment more with spasm influencing drugs. This is hard because the side effects can be very counterproductive. (Dont use Reglan by the way, it can give you tremors that don't go away). And another thing that I think you might consider, although many people may laugh because of your severe pain and very real physical manifestations, is the emotional/psychological aspects. There is a very close relationship between the mind and GI problems. Although this is VERY difficult to work on and might take a long time to produce positive results - since it probably took a long time to develope your very real physical problems. One more possibility that my GAstro-doc suggested to me is that there can be a functional component to it also. Even in the esophagus, spasm and pain can be partially due to a functional rather than organic origin. Bottom line, my impression is that you have a lot of muscle spasm, and I would try everything I could to calm it down. I'm exploring this also, and if I find any effective therapies, I'll certainly post them. Last changed: January 11, 2008 |
