Sounds like you're getting some help = that's good! In general, I personally will do anything to avoid taking drugs - because they tend to be a shotgun approach to something that usually needs a more focused and limited effect. On the other hand, sometimes it's the only thing that works for people. For instance, for me, I started having some minor persistent burning in my esophagus. When I started taking Prilosec and Previcid, my symptoms became dramatically worse. I took them for 2 months. But now that I'm off them I feel much better. Whether this was a coincidence or not, I don't know. But I did read in a PDR, that Previcid can rarely cause esophagitis and sore throat. And it also drastically slows down peristalsis. Well a gastr-doc had told me that he thought one of my problems was poor persistalsis. So I might have been deeply aggrevating my problem. The point I'm making is that drugs often have powerful side effcts that are hard to anticipate or know about. But they're often the only few tools doctors feel than can work with. So it's up to you (the patient) to research them if you can. I was lucky that my physicain warned me about Reglan. Other doctors may not know about the possible irreversable tremors. Whatever is going on with you is probably a lot different than what is going on with me. But for me ( I'm 50) I've learned several times, that the doctors (and many were excellent)could give me ideas and try to help, but with their help, I usually found the answer was something beyond their medicine bag. So I think you should have blood tests and explore all you can, but just apply your own intelligence to the situation. For example it may be possible to reduce spasms with non-drug techniques e.g. visceral manipulation. One more thing: ( God I'm really on a rant here.) I've started feeling much better. And two of the possible contributors are 1) getting off 60 mg prevacid/day, and 2) I started taking the following supplements a) Lipoic Acid, b) Gamma Oryzanol, and c) L_glutathione. I really doubt, that my improvement is driven by these supplements( especially being a "Debbie and Immunocal Skeptic", but who knows? I also have a lot more energy and I'm not a low-energy person. SO good luck. ( By the way the L-Glutathione I'm taking is not Immunocal; supposedly Immunocal has the really good kind of Glutathione - if I'm not mistaken) I ain't sellin anything here!
