Hiatal Hernia and Back Pain: Suggestions for Relief? From: PC CommentsIn my message posted last night I mentioned that my hiatal hernia/GERD produces esophageal spasms, pain just under and to the left of my sternum, and pain that refers to various parts of my left back. Sometimes it mimics kidney disease, sometimes it crawls around my left shoulder blade, sometimes it tries to crawl down my left arm, etc. I've talked to several people with similar symptoms and they lead me to believe that it's something I will have to learn to tolerate unless I decide to go for an operation--that the medication (in my case Aciphex) doesn't always stop this referred pain. What about the rest of you who suffer back pain with your hiatal hernias--any suggestions? Have any of your doctors prescribed an anti-inflammatory such as Celebrex or Vioxx for the pain? Have you found relief through acupuncture or other alternatives? Also, did any of you "lose" the pain as your time on medication increased? How long does that usually take?
