Glad to see I'm NOT the only one!

For the last 6 years, I've been on a steady diet of Prilosec. I've tried different diets, Propulsid, etc. For 5 years, I was on 20 mg of Prilosec. I'm up to 40 mg a day and usually with Rolaids or Riopan on the side. I had an endoscopy last month (which produced nothing!) and am going in next week for the PH test and esoph. test (which I'm not thrilled about). Reflux, heartburn and chest pain have become an unbearable part of my life. I'm seriously considering the lap. test but am a little confused. I've read on this web site differing views. Are there individuals out there who are really pleased with the results? I think I could live with a little heartburn after the surgery compared to the constant pain I have now... Please! Let me know. Tami

Hi, there's a wonderful book out there called _The Ulcer Story_ that explains quite well the concerns about long-term uses of these drugs. In one study, rats treated with a PPI for two years developed cancer. Although this hasn't been found in humans YET, it is still a concern... and then there are other concerns, but this is probably the most important.
