I think you are not doing your library research. I'm on PPI's and they donl't seem to be working for more than a few months at a time and thenh i switch to another BUT I have looked at that posting by the doctor and also have access to a website that downloads articles from hunfreds of medical journals. There are some who believe that PPIs cause cancer, but the evidence is based in correlation not causation. The one study in humans that tried to control for severity of symptoms and PPI use found no relatiobnship. It's like blaming suicide on anti-depressants. Depressed people commit suicide. Some take anti-deprerssants and they still kill themselves. Doesn't mean the anti-depressant casued the suicide. Long term follow-ups of prilosec users (many years of use) have not produced evidence suggesting long-term use leads to major problems. GERD is a tough thing to control, but it's irresponsible to assume there is a SCIENTIFICALLY validated alternative that does a better job. Even surgery doesn't seem to preclude later need for PPIs in the long-run based on follow-ups of patients.
