Hi Lee, you are not a nut case. You do need to accept that healing from such surgery is complex and time-consuming ... and not all that comfortable while it's in progress.
Now that you mention it, I found hard candy very helpful pre-surgery, because it soothed my throat and probably also my esophagus. So if that helps, go for it. Meanwhile, I will commiserate with you, because I also had a very slow recovery. But, I did recover, and so will you!
