White coating on tongue and raw sensitive areas on top and sides of tongue

I am currently taking Aciphex 20 mg for what has been diagnosed as mild reflux. Both doctors that I am seeing have looked at my tongue and stated that they do not know why my tongue has a white coating and sensitive areas. One doctor stated it could be a virus unrelated to GERD. The other doctor, a highly experienced specialist could not come up with a diagnosis. Any ideas?
