I was told to come back for a chest x-ray to make sure there is no pneumonia, which is common some weeks after surgery. Course I don't see why you can't go to a local GI for a check-up and x-ray. But it is important to have an endoscopy a year later to check the healing of the erosion caused by the acid to make sure there is no Barretts that shows up in the future.
