Hey Meow.. glad to hear you are doing better. May I ask WHAT allergies you had that were causing throat symptoms? So many of us on this board have throat symptoms and some of us have pets, drink lots of milk etc. so even though everyone's allergy response is different I would be most intersted to know what caused throat symtpoms for you if you are willing to share.
My sugestion was to talk to your doc before reducing your Prevacid for these reasons (of course the decision is always ultimately yours, not the doctor's): you mentioned esophageal DILITATIONS and I immediately wondered, what brought that stricture on, was it acid damage?? IF so... please consider talking with the doctor first... maybe he or she can do a test such as a PH Probe to see clinically if your reflux is gone before you gamble with it..? The other suggestion is if you are honest with your doc he or she may give you two 15 mg. prevacid Rx per day instead of the one 30 mg so that you can break up your dosing one in the morning one in the evening... still getting the 30 but giving it a gradual chance to see if your body adjusts ok on the 15. When I did this, my symptoms quickly returned before the next dose. I had to go up to 30 twice a day and eventualy grew tolerance to this also. Can you divide one 30 mg pill into two pills and do this yourself? Yes you can.. you will just need some extra capsuels, and most health food stores sell plain empty capsuels cheap... so I am sure you could half dose yourself if you wanted to and it is your right to do so but please consider taking 15 in the morning and 15 in the night to start and just SEE if you develop any symptoms back in-between the am and pm splitting of the dose or consider talking with your doctor if you have had strictures/dilitations that would be my suggestion.....
