Meow I read your story and I wanted to ask if anyone called the choking episodes LARYNGOSPASMS along your journey? You mentioned swollen larynx and vocal folds and I know from my own experience that this is behind the larynx chokes.. the sensation of the airway being sealed off and not being able to breathe or even chronic difficulty breathing past inflamed vocal cords... have you researched laryngospasm or paradoxical vocal fold movement at all? The biggest cause of laryngospasm usually is acid, though my doctors tell me post nasal drip can do it, medications can do it, allergies can do it and some other diseases like extremely low thyroid and neurological disorders from brain damage can do it. So I guess I would have the prevacid real handy in case you feel the spasms coming back on... when you mentioned the spicy chicken I thought, YEP I know that road, mine was hot sour soup at the Chinese restaurant that set off coughing and choking sensations as the first indication my larynx was damaged from acid and PND. In my case building tolerance to the Prevacid caused my spasms to come back full-speed even ON 2 30 mgs. pills a day... so now I am on 4 and still having other manifestations and symptoms and ever worried the spasms and gags in the throat will turn to full chokes once again (which as you know can be a real emergency). So please keep this in mind as you experiment with going off the PPI --- if it turns out to be all allergy and not at all reflux related I can see why you would not want to be stuck on PPI's indefinitely but just be cautious, you had mentioned trouble returning after four days off them once before? Please read up on laryngospasms also you may find some are allergy related and PND related and some are acid related. Best wishes and please let us know how you are doing.
