Jill, have you at least tried the PPI's before considering surgery? I ask because while everyone is surely different in response to all meds, it is usually standard treatment to go from Zantac etc. TO a ppi trial FIRST before surgery. This is supposedly because PPI's are a stronger class of acid inhibitors and, from all the research I have done, throat refluxers require higher dosages of PPI's for relief because the vocal cords are even more sensitive to acid than the lower esophagus. So just in case you have not yet tried any ppi's you may want to at least consider a trial before thinking surgery -- again results vary for everyone but it is the more common protocol.
