Hi Julie:

Don't give up just yet on the gas/bloat situation! I am three years post op, and truly for the first 1 1/2 years, I looked like a big old tick - my belly would just swell by the end of the day and none of my clothes fit right. My waistline could increase by 4-6 inches by the end of the day!!! I passed gas so much each day, that I felt like it borderline controlled my life! Would plan to not eat much if I went out with others, etc etc. And if I were in social situations and had to hold the gas in, I could get miserable pangs and pains. I would plan my social activities carefully around my gas/bloat.

Finally about 1 1/2 years post op, I began to burp a little more and the bloat went away. Gas comes and goes, and is worse if I eat breads, crackers, pretzels.....I can just count on it. But it is much more manageable now.

I do get chest pains, which are either esophageal spasms or gas. Gas is with me always, and even 3 years later, my waistline is a lot larger by the end of the day, so I wear elastic quite often.

My point is, if you can stand it, I would sure wait as long as possible before having the surgery reversed. I can honestly say that I am at least 75% better today, gas and bloat wise, than I was 3 years ago post op. So hang in there, and maybe the meds will help. It sounds like you are worse off than I was, but you just never know how it may resolve itself to your satisfaction. Regards Sharon
