Hi Paul,
Your doctor is concerned that you have symptoms of an infection. The chills are very suspect of this. The usual therapy is two antibiotics and an acid reducing med for a week, with the acid reducer for an additional few weeks.
In the meantime, seeing a neurologist might be a good idea. Low vinamin B12, diabetes, thyroid all have to be ruled out. Did you stop the meds soon after the tingling, etc began? This should have been a standard warning from your doc.
Hopefully, you are not taking any non steroidal anti inflammatories (NSAIDS), which appear to increase the likelihood of developing ulcers.
Don't believe me... go to drmirkin.com and search for "helicobacter", "Vitamin B12", "ulcers" etc.
