Hi Annette,
Does your mate have any heartburn symptoms, gastritis... belching, burping or burning in the stomach?
If you feel better after you eat an ulcer is a possibility because it is shielded from the acid by the food.
A blood test called "Hemoglobin A1c" would be informative since excessive weight can cause insulin insensitivity and lead to type 2 diabetes.
Your doctor should already be suggesting this.
