The cough was interesting. I could go all day without coughing if I didn't talk. As soon as I started to talk, I would cough. I would suspect that it is part of the protection process for the lungs. Like the first time a person tries to smoke they generally have coughing fit. Also, keeping this in mind, if you ever do aspirate enough reflux material into the lungs to cause a real problem you will probably know about it from the coughing.
