Yes, true about the cough. The worst thing was trying to read to my (then-young) daughter. I could barely do it. I guess I didn't breathe a lot of acid this morning, since I was not coughing thereafter. But now I wonder about the possible correlation of what goes on at night, unbeknownst to us, and how coughy/wheezy/etc. we feel the next day(s). I do wonder why sometimes my throat feels OKAY and sometimes I am coughing and/or wheezing a lot. Maybe that's the answer.

Semirelatedly, I had just begun to think I would have to do something about my sleep problems (which I think are mostly caused by throat problems, which in turn are at least partly related to GERD etc., but now I see I have to factor in this possibility that I would want to be able to wake up pretty quickly if my mouth/throat was full of acid....

Speaking of this, I think I noticed on this board (maybe the first archived one I found) mention of phlegm as protecting one's throat from acid. So now, do I go from complaining that I am choking to death to a new motto "phlegm is my friend"? At least I have not developed Barrett's Esophagus!

(I see I am going to have to learn to start new threads with new headers.... Also, I am getting error messages when I post, so I am glad to see the posts are getting through nonetheless.)
