Hi Julie,

You're probably gonna hate me for it, but let me tell you what I've been eating.*g* Last night I had chili and cornbread. Tonight I had tostadas with sour cream, tomatoes, lettuce, and avocado. Dr Pepper to drink. And no problems whatsoever. Not a trace of heartburn. I can even burp too!

I'm with Thistle though on going back to soft foods. There seems to be a great variability in how fast people can go back to normal foods after a fundo. Everybody wants to be in the fast healers group, but not all of us are (I wasn't). Eating the good stuff too soon can mean a bit of a set back. I was very, very conservative in adding the more difficult things to eat in comparison to many of the posters here who have had trouble. My surgeon warned me to only eat (whatever food it was I wanted) things that I tolerated well. The absolute worst foods for post fundo patients are meat, breads, and carbonated beverages. He said NO meat at all should even be considered within 2 weeks (and I waited much longer). I can't remember when I tried my first piece of bread (and it was UNtoasted), but it was around 3-4 weeks post fundo, and that bread hung up in my throat. So, I was careful to back off and reintroduce it slowly later. Then the BIGGEST hurdle came with my favorite drink, the Dr Pepper that I couldn't have any of for the year I had gerd. It was around 3 months or so post fundo I had some. Bad idea. It did not go down well. No problem, I remembered what my surgeon said about not continuing to eat or drink things that weren't tolerated. I knew it was too soon for me to have it. I waited months more before I tried again, and it was much, much better. Not perfect but tolerable. The perfect came with time. It didn't occur to me that there was anything wrong with my fundo or to go in for more testing, because I'd been prepared to expect what actually did happen. Improvement came by being patient. (However, an interesting thing was I able to eat quite spicey chilli well before I could handle the Dr Pepper). I'm just over 2 years post fundo and can eat anything and everything I want anytime I want with no heartburn and no need for gerd meds.

Well, guess I'm in a loquacious mood tonight! My bad.
