Hi Everyone, It's been two months since I have started to wean myself off the PPI's. Before my surgery on March 25th I had really mild burning in stomach area (not heartburn into chest) from what I figure is just excess acid in my stomach. After surgery when I started taking the pain pill, some toradol (which is like very high doses of advil), and I was also on two antiobiotics that all had side effects of affecting the stomach I began to experience more burn. I had been down to 10 mgs. of pepcid 2 times a day and had to go up to 20 mg. pepcid 2 times a day again. I also supplemented a little with mylanta (2 tsp. twice day if necessary).
My question is.....since I know that pepcid works on the gastrin level and pepcid works at the histamine level I know that my stomach is probably still producing more acid because the gastrin has leveled off and is still telling the stomach to produce more acid. I should have been weawned off the PPI but I just quit taking it and started taking the prevacid. I believe this is what is making the weaning off take a lot longer.
My fear of this is making it worse. I am such a worry wart. I would just like to know if anyone has heard how long it has taken others to do this. Thanks, Michelle
